Sinful Chocolate Chip Oreo Brownies {triple threat!}

This past Saturday, Anthony had the ‘privilege’  (if that’s what you want to call it) of running yet another marathon.  He had been carb loading all week long in preparation and on Friday night, he left to go to Logan.  K was lucky enough to go with him.  Anthony’s sister was running with him so her husband and son were able to spend Saturday morning with K.  She even got to run the last 2.2 miles with her aunt and cross the finish line with her.  I can’t tell you how proud she was.

Anthony was even more proud when K told him that she wanted to someday run a real marathon with him.

Well, Saturday was also the ‘big game’!  Utah vs BYU!  I won’t gloat but….

Go UTES!!

{Cougar fans, can we still be friends?}

Anyway, after running a ridiculous 26.2 miles, Anthony had to drive his sore legs, blistered feet, and raw nipples home.  Yes, I said nipples!  You see, it rained throughout pretty much the whole duration of the race meaning that all the runners had blisters covering their feet and the males (at least most of them) had bleeding nipples… Anthony was one of them.

The proof was on his shirt.  I really should have taken a picture of the shirt when he got home, darn it!

I tell him I’m really sorry and that I feel bad but maybe just a small part of me thinks Well, now you know how I feel during the first SEVERAL weeks of nursing… FIVE TIMES!!  Oh, and at least your nipples get a break and can heal… mine had a tiny creature feeding on them every couple of hours.  OUCH!

Sorry if that was TMI.  But I think next time he’ll sympathize a bit more…

Now where was I?

Oh yes, so he drove himself and K home that afternoon.  We had plenty of time before the game but I had already been busy from the time the boys went down for their naps making treats.

I had never made these particular recipes before so I was unsure how they might turn out.  Let me tell you… they were SOO good!

I’m only going to share one for now.  I’ll share the other in a later post.  Just think cheese and bread.  And Sarah, if you’re reading this, think high school!!

But right now think of chocolate chip cookies, Oreos and brownies!  Now think CARAMEL!  Mmmmmm, are you drooling yet?  Yeah, me too.

This is from a recipe I found on Pinterest.  The original post is here.  This is my take on this decadent treat!  Only slightly adapted.

Let’s get started…

-------------------------------------------------------

Preheat the oven to 350*

The first thing I did was make the Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.  I then lined a 9x13 pan with parchment paper and sprayed it with non-stick spray.

(That’s what the original post recommends.  The next time I make it, I think I’ll just spray the pan itself but feel free to do it however you want.)

Then I pressed the cookie dough evenly into the pan.  The whole recipe.

cookie1

And now you’ll take Oreo cookies and layer them on top of the cookie dough, like so… (you can use regular or double stuf)

cookie3

I hope you have a brownie mix on hand.

cookie4

A normal family-size mix is perfect!  Make it as per the directions and pour over the Oreos.  You’ll probably have to help it spread since brownie batter is quite thick.

cookie5 cookie6

Are you dying yet?  My cousin called this a heart attack in a pan.

Bake it for 45-55 minutes.  Mine took closer to the 55 minute range.

Once you take it out, let it cool to a comfortable eating temperature and serve with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce!  You could use hot fudge if you’d like.  Or both!  I won’t tell ;)

This really is best eaten warm but if it cools to room temperature, no worries!  Just stick a piece in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.

You’ll think you’ve just died and gone to heaven!!

Friend Makin’ Monday

I recently started following this blog… she’s the sister of one of Anthony’s best friends.  And today {Monday}, she did a fun little thing that I want to try called Friend Makin’ Monday.  You answer the questions on this other blog and then leave your link in the comments.  So, here goes.  Mind you, I realize that because I am writing this LATE on Monday, you probably won’t be reading this until Tuesday.  We’ll just have to deal with it.  Call it ‘Friend Makin’ Tuesday’ if ya wanna.

Anthony played along because I asked him the questions as we went along and typed them.  He was so engrossed in his football game that he didn’t even notice until question 14.  His answers are in RED!

FMM Questions

1. What are your talents?

Actually, I’m pretty sure that I haven’t found mine yet.  Remember those lines in heaven that I stood in {or failed to stand in}?

Sleeping

2. What is your best habit?

Best habit?  That’s kind of a funny question.  I’ve got lots of strange habits.  I don’t know about any best habits…

OH!  I know… flossing my teeth!  I love to floss.

My eating habits.

3. If you had to be stuck with someone in an elevator for 8 hours, who would you want it to be?

Anthony.  He could keep me calm.

On second thought, the thought of him STUCK in an elevator makes me nervous.  I think it would just irritate him to no end.  He’d probably end up banging on things, breaking things, saying naughty things… I don’t think it would be pretty.

Let me take another stab at it.  Maybe myself.  Can I be alone?  No, I’m too much of a chicken for that.  I’d cry.

I just don’t know.  Next…

Can I say you? {as in Brooke}

4. Share one odd fact about you that we’d never know to ask.

Well, I’ve already shared so much about myself here and here.  Didn’t I name all of my quirks?  There must be another…

Ok, I have to wear a night guard when I sleep because I have bruxism.  It’s a condition most often caused by stress that makes me clench and grind my teeth at night.  It has also caused damage to my gums from grinding my teeth so hard.  The gums are receding.  Don’t look too closely, k? ;)  I’m a little self-conscious about it.

I have an outtie belly button.

5. What’s your latest project (work, home, whatever you care to share?)

This question must be referring to the projects that I should be working on.  Am I currently working on anything?  Homeschool schedules, coming up with a chore system that actually works, moving the girls downstairs, figuring out how to pay all the bills {does that count as a project?}

Training for a marathon.

6. If you could change one thing about how you look, what would it be?

Where do I begin?  Stretch marks, saggy you-know-whats, new wrinkles forming, receding gums, flabby stomach, spider veins, crooked teeth, HUGE pores on my face… so much to choose from.

I think right now, I would choose to change the receding gums.

I wish there wasn’t as much fat on my stomach.  And now, I, Brooke, have to tell you that he’s whining about NOTHING!  The fat is practically gone… Pssshh!  Whatever!

7. What do you do in your spare time?

read, blog, Pinterest {need an invite?  Let me know}, homeschool stuff, cooking, and I would like to start crafting more.

Run.

8. What is your biggest pet peeve?

Rude people!!

Ignorant people.

9. Why do you blog?

I like to keep a family record to let future generations know what I wish I knew about some of my ancestors.  They’ll know my ‘voice’ and that makes me happy.  They’ll get a sense of who I was, what I enjoyed, my favorite recipes, funny stories, not so funny stories, etc.

I don’t blog.

10. Are you tidy or messy?

Messy… I can’t deny it.  But I’m working on it.  I’ve got some things to share in a later post so stay tuned.

Tidy… what else?

11. What’s the last song that played on your iPod?

Well, if I actually owned an iPod, I might be able to answer this question.  No doubt it probably would have been a country song.

**pulled a face, then said** I don’t know.

12. Do you cook?

Yes, I do.  And I quite enjoy it, thank you.  Although, I really need to get batter about menu planning.  I’m kind a mess when it comes to that stuff.

Very rarely.

13. Do you like sports?

Depends ….  I like to watch NBA Basketball, certain college football teams {go UTES!}, hockey {if I’m there to watch it live… TV stinks}, and baseball {also live}.  I hate playing all of the above.

I like to play volleyball.  Not good at it but I like to play.

What kind of question is that?

14. How often do you read and/or watch the news?

Once a week, maybe.

I don’t know.  Once or twice a week.  Three times a week?  I don’t know.

What is this for?  And I am laughing so hard right now.

15. Did you stick to your new Year’s resolution this year?

What were they again?  I guess that’s a no.

Some of ‘em.

16. What are you looking forward to most in the remainder of 2011?

All the upcoming holidays.  LOVE fall and winter holidays.

A great football season!

17. Shoes, sunglasses or handbags?

I’ve never really been in a position to get into any fashion stuff.  I’m not really a very materialistic person.  But I’ll take ANY if you give ‘em to me.  ;)

This question is not applicable to me.

18. How do you feel about sleeping on satin sheets?

Never tried satin sheets.  I think I would slip out of bed.  Any of you experienced in this area?

Useless.

19. Do you sing in the shower?

Ummm, no!

No.

20. Describe yourself in one word.

Scaredy-cat …. {if I hyphenate, it’s still one word, right?}

Unique

Now it’s your turn!  Let’s get to know each other.

Let the Madness Begin!

Can you taste it?  Anthony sure can….

It’s FOOTBALL SEASON!!

I have a love/hate relationship with football and fall in general.  You see, this is the time of year that I usually feel like a single mom.  For the past several years, Anthony has coached little league.

No, we don’t have a son on the team.  Our oldest boy is only 3, remember?  So, why in the world would he coach?  He just loves football that much.  Every year when they take team pics, the photographer asks which boy is his son {because they get a pic for free or something… I don’t know.}  They are always surprised when he tells them that none of the players belong to him.

The teams he has coached thus far have always been kind of the underdog team.  They never win many {if any} games but they sure have fun.  And the boys love Anthony.  He’s tough but they love it.

You may be wondering how many of his games I actually went to.  I’ll tell you, but don’t judge me, k?

NONE! Nada! Zero! Zilch!

I attempted it… once.  But remember, I have a son named C {click here if you haven’t ‘met’ C, yet}….. enough said, right? {Oh, and I’ve got a flood of stories coming… watch out!}

Haven’t attempted to attend a game since.  I am MORE than positive that he would end up on the field during a major play, and be pancaked under a lineman or something.  Are they the big guys?  I don’t know who’s who.

Anyway, this year, I put my foot down {I was ‘blessed’ with large ones} and said NO to him coaching.  I couldn’t take another year of Little League {4 nights a week}, endless football talk, AND season tickets to the UTES!  {Anthony, his dad and his BIL buy tickets each year}

Utes

Look at that face… it’s like a kid on Christmas morning!

The Ute games I can handle… once a week for 12 weeks.  Heck, even I get into it!  And only half are at home, the others we get to enjoy in our living room WITH Anthony.  Woohoo!

It will be so nice to have a husband this fall.  Even if it does mean incessant Ute/football talk.  I have to remind him sometimes that I have absolutely no clue what he’s talking about when he says things like “Statue of Liberty play” and “off sides”.  The extent of my football knowledge is “touchdown” and “quarterback”.  Seriously, that’s about it.  But it’s fun to watch.  Does that count?

Wait, wait, wait!  Let me clarify.  The UTES are fun to watch!  I don’t really care about anyone else.

And now I have nothing more to say except…

go UTES!

OH, and my prediction…. 28 – 17 {for the Utes, of course}

Future QB?

**Sorry, apparently I thought I could keep the video private but still let YOU see it.  It should be working now.  DUH**

Anthony would say definitely YES!

I say, “Son, go for something less physical… Golf, maybe.  Or better yet, chess!”

Chess seems safe enough, no?

But every day… every. stinkin’. day… C plays catch with his daddy.  And he loves it.  I just hope I can dangle a bishop or a golf ball in front of him one day and he’ll fall for it.

Doubtful, I know.

Here he is working on his speed and agility {not to mention bobble-headed-ness} in Anthony’s old pads and jersey.  Makin’ his daddy proud!

~GO UTES!~

For those of you that don't already know, my husband is a HUGE University of Utah football fan, and today is their biggest game to date this year! They are playing TCU and it is intense! ESPN Game Day is here in Utah doin' their thing. Anthony is soooo excited!! It's like Christmas around here. He didn't go to bed until 3 a.m. and he was up again at 6:30 watching the coverage on ESPN to see what's going on. Get some sleep, for cryin' out loud!!

Part of the reason he was up so late is because we were putting together his giveaways for the game. It's the blackout game so he is giving black "Go Utes" wristbands along with a chance to win a pair of season tickets for next year! Pretty cool, right? Just be one of the first 100 people to get an insurance quote from Anthony and you'll be entered to win!! AWESOME!! So, if you live in the state of Utah and want a chance at this awesome prize, not to mention a chance to possibly save $$ on your insurance, give him a call. His phone # is 801-577-9212. This promotion runs through the month of November but hurry so you can be one of the first 100!!

Be sure and mention this promo so you'll be entered! Oh and GO UTES!!
