Who knew? When I found this recipe for homemade slurpees on this blog, I knew I had to make it for my kids. They look forward to the one day a year they are able to have the real slushy treat from the Sev.... July 11th (7-11). It's the one day a year they give them out free... small, but free!
Pathetic, to be sure. Who deprives their kids of such luxuries all but one day a year? And last year it fell on a Sunday so we didn't even go. So, it's been two whole years since my kids have enjoyed a true Slurpee.
I thought I'd make this slurpee and be the hero of all heroes! We'd never have to hit the Sev again.
Turns out, I was the hero for but a fleeting moment until my oldest daughter looked at me and said, "These are good, but..." (Why is there always a but?) "...we're still going to 7-11 on 7-11."
It's true, they weren't quite the same. There's just something about a real slurpee...
But we had fun with it anyway.
Just a note, if you decide to find the recipe on that site, I had to use almost twice as much ice as it called for.
Below are the pics of my kids enjoying their grape slurpees.

Thanks for the share! I wish they always had that cup size (the free one)
