Watermelon Slush

You may be surprised to learn that Anthony gave me this recipe.  He came home the other night after boating with some buddies and told me all about how John's wife had made a watermelon slush.  And of course he told me that it was super good.  Only he didn't use the word super.

Have I ever heard him say the word 'super' in that context?  I don't believe I have.

Anyway, he had inquired about the ingredients... a whopping TWO!  Two whole ingredients.  But I recommend a third.  I can do that, right?  She had mentioned to Anthony that it called for a third but she didn't use it.

So, are you ready for this oh-so-complicated recipe?  Here's the ingredient list:

  1. Watermelon {about 1/4 of a medium sized melon}

  2. limes

  3. sugar {optional but recommended}.... naughty, I know

Cut the watermelon into chunks.  Place a few large chunks into a blender {about 1 quart... 4 cups}.  Add the juice of 2 limes {about 1/4 cup or to taste}.

Here's the optional part.  You can add a tablespoon or two of sugar.

Blend it all up and taste test.  Does it need more sugar?  More lime?  It's totally up to you.

Pour contents into a bowl and place it in the freezer.

Check on it after an hour and every 1/2 hour after that.  Stir each time until you have a slushy consistency.  It took mine about 3 1/2 hours.

My kids loved it!  And I didn't even add sugar, but I still recommend you add a little... or HONEY!

Let me know how you like it!

Looks very yummy!! Will have to try this. My daughter says she buried watermelon seeds in my garden and something appears to be growing in that spot. We might just have our own home grown watermelon to use!

I've got a recipe very similar to this- try freezing about 2/3-3/4 of your watermelon in chunks for a few hours and then blending that in with the rest when you're ready to have it. A cup or so of Ginger ale or Sprite types of sodas to ~4-6c of watermelon makes for a nice fizz. This stuff is GREAT no matter what you do. :)

I am sure adding other flavors would make it even better! I think bananas would be awesome in it. Maybe I'll try it next time.
